Achmea Bank

The challenge

At Achmea Bank, designing access rights, deciding who may use which systems, came down to manual steps spread across several teams. Getting through it took six weeks. At that scale, a routine internal process becomes slow and error-prone, and every hand-off is a chance for details to drift.

What I built

An internal web application that brought that process together in one place:

• A complete application, from the screens people work in to the logic behind them
• Every step guided and every input checked, so the process is easy to follow, even for people who rarely do it
• Built to last and to be maintained, under the bank's engineering and security standards
• Requirements refined step by step together with several teams
• Delivered with documentation, so internal teams could keep building on it

The specifics stay under NDA, as they should at a bank.

The result

What used to take six weeks now takes one day. The process became easier to understand for everyone involved, and because the application guides people through every step and checks what they enter, the mistakes the manual process allowed can no longer happen. It was handed over documented. For client work, the most valuable part is the discipline it trained: strict code reviews, security requirements and getting several teams aligned, which I have applied to every project since.
